Second Year Experience

Office of Undergraduate Education

The Second Year Experience (SYE) Student Board promotes community for all U of M second-year students and provides feedback about the needs of second-year students. This leadership opportunity will help inform the Office of Undergraduate Education and the campus community regarding ways to improve the second-year experience.

The SYE student board is responsible for communicating and creating ways for second-year students to connect with their peers and engage on campus. Keep an eye out for SYE Student Board hosted events that highlight themes of engagement, academics, and community!

Meet The Board

Radhika Banerjee

Director, Business and Data Analyst
College of Liberal Arts | Economics

What advice can you give to incoming second year students?
My advice to second year students is to believe in one’s own abilities and not worry about being judged at any point of time. As the saying goes, ‘normal is an illusion. What is normal for the spider is chaos for the fly’.

Hannah Brickson

College of Liberal Arts | Psychology

What advice do you want to give to incoming second year students?
Take this time to get more involved!! As a freshman you’re still trying to figure your way out around campus. This way, now that you’re more comfortable around campus, joining new groups can be a great way to get involved and meet more people!

Sabrina Chu

College of Biological Sciences | Neuroscience

What's the best thing about being a second year student?
The best thing would probably be meeting new friends and old friends. College community is so big that I can’t just stick with one group of people. Everyone is super supportive and helpful and I already know where everything is!

Megan Daggett

Event Coordinator
College of Liberal Arts | Sociology of Law, Crime and Deviance and Political Science

What's your favorite part of second year?
My favorite part would be the freedoms that come with off campus living and taking more major specific classes.

Taylor Johnson

Marketing Chair
College of Liberal Arts | Strategic Communications

What's the best thing about being a second year student?
I love being a second year student because I have more independence that I did my freshman year and still have time to create and action plan for after graduation.

Bella Lockhart

Social Media Coordinator
College of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences | Animal Sciences

What's the best thing about being a second year student?
Not Being a Freshman! Being a second year student, I know my way around the university better and I (kinda) know what I’m doing.

Megan Schmidt

Vice President
College of Science and Engineering | Biomedical Engineering

What's the best thing about being a second year student?
Being more comfortable in college after having one year under my belt.
